ABS-CBN’s Wowowee host Willie Revillame appeared at Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) office in Quezon City this Friday, August 15 and paid his taxes amounting to more than P6.2 million.
“Kailangang gawin ito at saka quarterly ito tatlong buwan (April, May and June) na itong babayaran ko…P6.2 million mahigit,” Revillame said.
The host who arrived in BIR office at nine in the morning said that he will personally pay his taxes to prove that he abides by the law.
“Susunod ka sa batas susunod ka sa totoo dapat ako ang makipag-usap–hindi lang ako umaasa sa ibang tao. Sabi ko sa accountant ko, ako na ang magbabayad para malaman ko kung saan mapupunta ang babayaran ko,” Revillame added.
Revillame said he dutifully pays his taxes not simply to abide by the law, but also in gratitude for the blessings he has received–which is why, he said, it never crosses his mind to cheat the government.
“Siyempre hindi biro ang babayaran ko. Anim na milyon mahigit. Kung yan ang legal yun ang gagawin ko… kung blessed ka naman bakit mo lolokohin ang bayan, lolokohin ang gobyerno. Okay naman maganda naman ang nakikita ko sa bansa natin… doon napupunta ang tax natin sa aking opinyon as a taxpayer kuntento naman ako,” explains Revillame.
The comedian-actor also said that paying his taxes has nothing to do with veteran comedian Joey de Leon’s tirade saying that there are some who have big properties but doesn’t pay taxes.
“No hindi naman. As a taxpayer gusto ko mismo malaman kung bakit ganito kalaki ang babayaran, i-expalin yun pala, wala pala akong expenses kaya mataas kasi hindi ako maluhong tao,” he said.
Revillame said that P6.2 million is really a big amount but he has no choice but to abide by the rules of law.
He said that his life is an open book and has nothing to hide, pointing out that all his earnings are on record at ABS-CBN.
