Willie Revillame vs Joey De Leon “the second time around”

20 08 2008

Last year, we witnessed the word war on national television between two noontime show hosts from rival stations, Willie Revillame and Joey de Leon. One year later, the feud was ignited again and the two noontime shows will be converted to “reality soap operas” for the second time.

August 20, 2007, a mechanical glitch happened in the Wowowee game segment called “Wilyonaryo.” Joey de Leon, on the other hand, dished out some jokes on his noontime show Eat Bulaga regarding the growing controversy in the rival show Wowowee. The next day, Willie Revillame suspended the show for a couple of minutes to answer back Joey’s attacks live on national tv. And the word war continued on a daily basis until the chairman of MTRCB, Consoliza Laguardia, mediated to put an end to the word war between the two host comedians.

In the recent show of Eat Bulaga in Los Angeles, Joey de Leon rendered a parody number changing the lyrics of the song “Imagine” by John Lennon. The lyrics goes:

Imagine there’s no 7
Wala nang network war
Wala na ang kapuso
Remake ng Marimar

Imagine walang bubble gang every Friday
Imagine Mike Enriquez
Walang excuse me po
No Dyesebel to watch for
And no more Gobingo
Imagine no Saksi or Sis
At wala nang dramarama
Channel 2’s the only one
Makikita araw araw
Ay mukha lang ni Pokwang

…Makikita araw araw ay mukhang aswang!”

After the video hits Youtube, Willie Revillame fired back at Joey defending Pokwang on the August 18 episode of his noontime show Wowowee.

Quoting Willie:

Pokwang, on the other hand, chose to thank the people on her side.

Thank you po.”

With these developments, people are tuning in on both noontime shows waiting for another attacks coming from Joey or Willie. It’s like entertainment beyond entertainment. It’s like watching a reality show and you get excited on unexpected things happening.

Come to think of it, Willie Revillame and Joey de Leon have so much in common. They were both reprimanded by MTRCB for uncarelessly blurting out green jokes on tv in the past. They are both comedians, they are both novelty singers, they both had a case in the past and they both have tax issues.

So maybe they are doing this for publicity and for the ratings? We must admit, these controversies fueled their noontime shows’ tv ratings last year so this year can be no different. We just have to take these, nothing more than entertainment.

As a result OFW Condemned such acts; her it goes as a comment in a blog:

OFW condemned Mr. De Leon’s style of Joke! Says:
August 20th, 2008 at 8:15 pm

I am a president of Filipino Community her in Los Angeles and we cannot tolerate Mr. De Leon’s style of Joke.

I am really saddened by his act considering his statue in the industry. Mr. De Leon dont need this kind of publicity at his age. He should’ve thought as a matured person and most especially as a Public personality.

We have been doing our own way of promoting the good traits and culture of Filipino, yet a personality like Mr. De Leon will come up on stage and mocked a fellow Filipino’s face, and make a joke out of it, affecting the lives of his subject, we are moved by Miss Pokwang’s daughter and how it affected her.Your son or grandson might just experience what Miss Pokwang’s daughter experienced, and that is very traumatic at their age.

As a result of our meeting last August 17, 2008, we ahve finally resolved that we will do in whatever means to denounce Mr. de Leon’s style of joke. This could be by means of distributing pamphlets or convincing Filipino to stop the subscription of his station, PINOY TV.

Most of us here is Mr. De Leon’s Batch, we grow up listening to VST song and watching Tito Vic and Joey movies, but this can’t go on. Filipino should help one another. We have been observing you in your other shows, and your personality have been examplary unforgiving.

Please be responsible enough as a public figure. Many Filipino idolizes you. Try to be cautious of your actions. Dont be overshadowed by your fame and success. We are not getting any younger please act your age Sir.

Our government may not have a LAW that punishes such below the belt joke but let it be a lesson to Willie, Joey and Vic or to any personality, that there are Filipino especially here in abroad that will make a stand for righteousness and fair.

WE CANT BE PROUD THE WAY YOUR STATION TAGS WHEN THERE ARE FILIPINO’S LIKE YOU SIR.

WE CAN STOP THIS HOWEVER, IF YOU TAKE A PUBLIC APOLOGY.
